Bluemethane has been partnering with United Utilities as part of their Innovation Lab, an invaluable opportunity for technical and commercial collaboration with a leading municipal wastewater company in the UK. Although the 14 week programme has now come to an end, the partnership remains. We continue to work closely with United Utilities as we shift the focus from measuring methane, to seeing how we can test our methane capture system at one of their fourteen bioresources sites.
Last November, Bluemethane was one of only six companies selected from a pool of 136 applicants and 600 scouted suppliers for the United Utilities Innovation Lab. The Innovation Lab was an exciting collaborative programme focused on accelerating groundbreaking solutions within a live wastewater environment. This was an important milestone in Bluemethane’s journey.
During the fourteen-week Innovation Lab programme, Bluemethane successfully established a use case and benefits for recovering methane from wastewater within United Utilities, and produced a feasibility study for Bluemethane’s methane capture technology.
So what comes next? We are currently working to capture our first tonne of greenhouse gases from a UK municipal wastewater treatment site. We hope to work with United Utilities to test our one-tonne methane capture system (which has been named Harvey ‘the methane harvester’!) at one of their fourteen bioresources sites.
