Scottish Water: Quantifying methane production

Scottish Water has enlisted Bluemethane to help quantify their on-site methane emissions at one of their wastewater treatment plants. Aiming to gain a comprehensive understanding of their greenhouse gas emissions, this project will quantify both methane production and emissions.

To measure their on-site emissions, Scottish Water are using a combination of drones and handheld methane measuring devices. Bluemethane will be estimating methane production by measuring dissolved methane.

Bluemethane and Scottish Water have started a 12-month continuous measuring and monitoring programme to quantify methane production site-wide. This project will set a methane production base line and will inform their mitigation approach. Furthermore, if methane production is found to be substantial, methane capture technology is the next step….
