Accurate methane measurement to drive smarter mitigation

Methane measurement is the first step in effective methane management.

Emily

In-situ, real-time methane measurement for digestate and sludge. Accurate methane management in complex liquids is the first step in effective methane management.

Without accurate data, biogas operators are forced to estimate how much methane remains in digestate or sludge, risking over-reporting emissions, losing valuable biogas and missing opportunities to maximise biogas production while minimising methane emissions.

Emily enables water companies and industrial biogas operators to measure total residual methane accurately at the source. By directly measuring dissolved and entrained methane in post-digested sludge, digestate and liquid waste streams, Bluemethane reveals hidden methane losses and quantifies true emissions.

By turning hidden methane into measurable data, Bluemethane supports informed decision-making, regulatory readiness, improved safety and greater biogas recovery. While methane measurement is not yet mandated, accurate data is essential for effective mitigation and future compliance.

Why Emily?

Accurate — Real-time, in-situ measurement of total residual methane (dissolved and entrained) in digestate and sludge.

Actionable — Know exactly when to capture more methane, adjust operations, or report emissions with confidence.

Compliant — Supports accurate environmental reporting and regulatory readiness.

Diagnostic — Identify emission hotspots, process bottlenecks and opportunities to optimise biogas yield.

Who we work with

  • Water companies
  • Biogas plant operators
  • Industrial sites managing methane emissions from liquid waste streams

Measuring specifications.

Emily is installed directly on the sample line, delivering continuous, real-time methane data from complex liquid streams.

Working range: 0–80 mg/litre

Accuracy: 5–10% (compared to lab GC)

Detection limit: 1 mg/litre

Response time: 5–15 minutes

Liquids: Up to 12% solids, foam, macro solids and sample pressures up to 2 bar

The benefits

Maximise biogas recovery — Understand how much residual methane remains and where recovery can be improved.

Reduce methane emissions — Avoid under or over-reporting methane emissions.

Easy to use — Replace estimates with accurate data.

Future-proof — Designed to support evolving regulation and long-term operational efficiency.
