Why are we not doing enough to invest in methane abatement?

Why are we not doing enough to invest in methane abatement?

According to CPI’s Climate Finance Tracking workstream – Landscape of Methane Abatement Finance (2022)

– Methane contributes to 50% of global warming.
– Methane is a highly potent gas, with a warming potential more than 80 times greater than that of carbon dioxide
– But only 2% of climate investment flows into methane abatement.

Methane abatement finance has one of the highest impacts in reducing global warming per dollar of capital invested. The world cannot avoid the worst impacts of climate change without sufficient finance flowing towards methane abatement.

The time to act is now.
