Latest feature: Sifted highlights the urgent need for investment in methane solutions

Bluemethane’s prominent feature in Sifted focused on the urgent need for greater investment in methane abatement.

Bluemethane has been prominently featured in a recent article by Freya Pratty in Sifted, which highlights a critical issue at the heart of our mission: solutions for methane emissions, a greenhouse gas 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide, draw very little interest. With 30% of global warming due to methane, why is only 2% of climate investment going towards methane solutions?

As Freya aptly observed, “With most of the attention around curbing greenhouse gas emissions fixed on carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide’s less famous cousin has flown largely under the radar.” Underinvestment in methane mitigation efforts poses a significant obstacle to achieving our climate goals.

To meet the ambitious COP26 Global Methane Pledge and reduce global methane emissions by over 30% by 2030, we must reshape the narrative and channel resources toward methane solutions. It is imperative that we rally support, foster collaboration, and inspire greater interest in addressing this crucial aspect of the climate crisis.

Bluemethane is committed to leading the charge in driving awareness, increasing investment, and facilitating the change needed to bridge the gap between methane solutions and the attention they rightfully deserve. We have developed a novel financial mechanism, the Methane Capture Service, in partnership with The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance and Open Hydro to bridge this gap. This will reduce the financial barrier associated with investing in innovative climate technologies.
