Brutus is being piloted to stop hard-to-stop downstream methane by deactivating methanogens, supported by industry and regulators.

Brutus — designed to meet the EU Industrial Emissions Directive – is now installed at an Anglian Water site, close to Milton Keynes. This is the first system of its kind aimed at stopping methane formation downstream by deactivating methanogens. Downstream emissions are often invisible and unmeasured, but can be significant. Brutus stops them. Clever Brutus.
This pilot is:
- funded by six UK water companies
- supported by the Environment Agency as Project Observer
- grant-supported by Innovate UK
- delivered to budget and on timeline
Brutus will be open for site visits during April and May.
Yes, Brutus’ name is intentional: he stabs methane in the back.
