Summer internship

We are looking for a bright engineering and economics intern to work on a paid 6 to 8 week interneship with Bluemethane and our customers on what can be done with the harvested methane from water.

Summary

Summer internship. Engineering and economics. Remote.

Who we are

Reducing methane emissions from reservoirs and wastewater could be one of the most powerful instruments to slow global warming. Globally, 51 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere from human activity every year. Three billion tonnes are from methane escaping from water. No scalable solution exists to remove methane from water – until now.

Bluemethane is developing technology to measure, capture and utilise methane from water. This will permanently remove methane from water, reduce global warming and support the energy transition by unlocking a new source of energy. Bluemethane will start with hydropower plants and wastewater treatment, and ultimately, natural bodies of water. Bluemethane’s mission is to capture a billion tonnes of CO2e from water.

Key responsibilities

  1. Research alternative uses of the captured methane (specific to methane from water)
  2. For each use case, understand what the minimum and ideal requirements and expectations of the methane needs to be for:
    1. quantity of methane
    2. quality (gas composition)
    3. geographical dependencies (eg gas/grid connections)
    4. cost per unit of energy generated
    5. Cost a unit of energy can be sold (focusing on 5 selected countries)
  3. For Bluemethane’s likely industry sectors of wastewater and hydropower (for a typical project (with a range of low, expected, high), determine what the following are likely to be (i) quantity of methane and (ii) quality (gas composition)
  4. For wastewater and hydropower, create a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) which compares (i) the levelised cost of energy (LCOE) of the utilisation options of the captured methane with (ii) the LCOE for those industries of existing energy production
  5. Develop simple information matrix/visualisation to inform customers about the optimal approach for utilising captured methane

What we are looking for

  • You’re a self-starter with entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Open minded and resourceful with a hands-on attitude.
  • Team player with a sharing attitude.

Location

Remote.

What we offer

  • 6-8 week paid internship, remote working
  • Project reports to Nestor, Bluemethane’s CTO and works closely with Louise, our CEO
  • To start asap and to be completed flexibly over the summer 2022.
