International Hydropower Association (IHA), Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and Bluemethane.
We are delighted to announce that Bluemethane has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Hydropower Association (IHA), Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and Bluemethane, to collaborate in developing a global hydropower methane emissions observation network.
Bluemethane, UQAM and IHA will work together to measure methane concentrations from an initial set of 20 reservoirs worldwide and as a first in the sector will be complemented with satellite measurements to provide top-down measurements at the same sites.
This project will (i) improve our understanding of methane release from reservoirs, (ii) identify candidate locations to deploy Bluemethane’s methane removal technology, enabling the capture and use of accumulating methane for energy production and (iii) enable the inclusion of this data in global methane budgets for the first time.
This MoU is a demonstration of collaborative leadership in developing step-change initiatives to increase confidence in measurements and predictive modelling and to enable even more sustainable hydropower.
We look forward to getting started.
