Our mission: To capture a billion tonnes of greenhouse gases from water

Join a movement

Why are we tackling methane?

Although the threat has been invisible, stemming methane leaks from reservoirs and wastewater could be one of the most powerful instruments to quickly slow climate change. Globally, 51 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere from human activity every year. Three billion tonnes are from methane escaping from water.

How did it all start?

Bluemethane began with a revelation: Nestor, a seasoned hydropower engineer, stumbled upon an article in The Guardian highlighting the staggering greenhouse gas emissions from hydropower reservoirs, totalling a billion tonnes. Astonished by this previously overlooked challenge, Nestor harboured the idea for years until the abnormally warm European winter of 2019/2020 prompted him to confront the urgency of global warming head-on. Nestor resolved to leverage his engineering to address the pressing issue of methane emissions from water sources.

Our culture

Here at Bluemethane, we have a wonderful team of people who are passionate about the environment and are determined to make an impact. Innovation and excellent science are at the centre of Bluemethane, but our company culture also strives to foster an environment where we are transparent in what we know and share, there are no walls or doors between us, and we can be the same person at work as we are at home.

We are a community. We work hard to create a company we love and frequently review the list of attributes which we want our company culture to entail – we call this our ‘Bluebook’.

All potential employees and partners are welcome to find out more about our culture and recieve a copy of our Bluebook.
